LEE BOON WANG 李文苑

Lee Boon Wang (1934–2016) was one of Singapore's leading second-generation realist painters and a co-founder of the Equator Art Society. A graduate of the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, he devoted his life to artistic practice and art education. Inspired by his years at sea, he became renowned for his evocative depictions of seascapes, coastal life and the landscapes of Southeast Asia. His works, celebrated for their mastery of light, form and realism, are represented in the collection of the National Gallery Singapore.
Recipient of the Singapore Creative Art Award (1980) and the Singapore Distinction Art Award (1982), Lee also represented Singapore in Moscow in 1978 and became the first Singaporean artist commissioned to paint the Brunei Royal Family.
