Born in 9 September 1906, Guangdong, China, is well regarded as one of Singapore’s pioneer artists. Chen graduated from Xinhua Academy of Fine Arts in 1929 and met artists such as Chen Jen Hao, Chen Chong Swee, and Liu Kang, whom later would also become pioneer Singapore artists.
Chen specialises in incorporating elements of eastern and western art, also known as Nanyang Art. Chen had also taught at The Chinese High School from 1949 to 1968, and Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts from 1950 to 1959, making him one of most influential artists in Singapore.
Chen’s works have been exhibited both locally and globally, such as in China, Singapore, Malaysia, and England. His artworks have been highly sought after, with his works pricing up to 100,000 during the 90s.
