TAN CHIN BOON (b. 1953)

Tan Chin Boon was born in 1953 and is of Fujian, China ancestry. He graduated from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in 1972, where he studied under pioneering Singapore artists such as Chen Chong Swee and See Hiang Toh.
He is best known for his Chinese ink paintings and seal carving, particularly works featuring flowers, birds and elements of nature. His paintings combine traditional Chinese ink techniques with a distinctive personal style, often making expressive use of negative space and contemporary composition.
Tan has also devoted many years to the practice of seal carving and has published several collections of his seal works. In 2024, he received the Gold Award in the Established Artist Category of the UOB Painting of the Year competition in Singapore.
