LAI KUI FANG 赖桂芳(b.1936)

Born in 1936, Labis, Malaysia, is best known for his paintings that depicts historical moments. Lai was not just a painter, he was also a sculptor. Lai graduated from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in 1956 and received a French government scholarship to study at École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. As such, Lai became familiarised with European academic traditions.
Lai has received many awards throughout his artistic career and has even received distinctions from the French government for this artistic contributions. When Lai returned to Singapore, he became known for his monumental historical commissions.
Lai’s works have been featured on Newspapers and have had many exhibitions in several countries, such as France, the USA, China, and Singapore.
