YEH CHI WEI( 1913-1981)

Yeh Chi Wei was born in Fuzhou, China in 1913 and later became an important figure in Singapore’s art scene. He was the leader of the Ten Men Group and led artists on painting trips around Southeast Asia. These trips gave him a lot of inspiration and also encouraged other artists to explore new subjects and cultural influences.
He was also an important art educator who taught many students in Singapore and Malaya. During his time at Chung Cheng High School in the 1950s and 1960s, he was known as a strict teacher with high standards.
Yeh Chi Wei was familiar with both Chinese and Western art, and his works were also influenced by Southeast Asian culture. Although he is not as well known today as some of his contemporaries, his influence as both an artist and a teacher had a lasting impact on Singapore’s art scene.
