SIEW HOCK MENG Visions of Forms
10th Sep-27th Sep
Born in Johor in 1942, Siew began his artistic journey in Singapore, where he spent his childhood imitating artists painting outdoors. Encouraged by his art teachers, he later studied at NAFA and developed a strong interest in philosophy and politics, which introduced political undertones into his still lifes and portraits.
His travels and encounters with different cultures have deeply influenced his practice. As he explains, “The more varied your experience, the clearer you will see through things.” Working across oil, pastel, and watercolour, Siew creates works that are both meaningful and visually compelling.
His works have been exhibited internationally, including at the National Art Museum of China in Beijing in 2004. He has received the National Day Medal for Fine Arts, the Visual Arts Creation Award, and the 2024 Cultural Medallion. This exhibition presents a selection of his watercolour and oil paintings, expressing his experiences through the language of art.
